In August, the owners of Wioletta’s Polish Market, 3955 S. Howell Ave., announced on Facebook that they planned to launch a new casual Polish restaurant. Today we sat down with Co-owner Adam Bartoszek, who shared a few more details about the plans for the new restaurant.
While the specific location for Wioletta’s Polish Kitchen is still under wraps, Bartoszek says it will be located in South Milwaukee, a city that’s actively promoting the renaissance of businesses in its Downtown area.
The restaurant will operate as a casual eatery with counter service and seating for up to 60 guests in its 2500 square foot space.
The Bartoszeks are from Lodz (pronounced “wooj”), a city in Central Poland, while the chef the Bartoszeks plan to hire for the restaurant hails from the North. The result will be a menu that includes recipes from both Wioletta, a trained chef, and the restaurant chef.
Di says the menu is likely to include dishes like pierogi, pork cutlets, Polish sausage, soups, goulash and a Polish plate featuring classics like stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, pierogi, vegetables and ribs or goulash.
Guests can also look forward to various desserts similar to those carried at the market, as well as beverages including Polish Tymbark and standard soft drinks.
Bartoszek says they’ve been humbled by the reception that the market has received from customers in the neighborhood and beyond and they are excited to take the business to the next level.
“Since Polonez closed, we’ve been without a Polish restaurant in Milwaukee,” he says. “So we are happy to fill that void. But owning a restaurant will also allow us to more easily stock the store with soups and ready-to-go meals. And we’ll have the ability to offer Polish catering.”
If all goes well, the restaurant could open as soon as February of 2025.
