As if it’s news to anyone, Innerbody – “a commercial, educational Web site designed for anyone interested in learning the intricacies of the human anatomy” – has released a study that says that Wisconsin is the U.S. state that most enjoys beer.
Was there ever any doubt?
This comes on the heels of USA Today naming Milwaukee the second-best beer city in the country in 2024.
Rounding out the top five states that love beer the most are Illinois, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Arizona. Michigan, Indiana and Ohio are also in the top 10, suggesting that the upper Midwest really loves its brew.
The least beer-loving states are Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho, according to the report.
Innerbody posits that, “With the average 24-pack costing double the national average, it seems Alaskans might love beer but find it too pricey.”
The report also looked at the most popular beers in each state and it appears that Miller has a trifecta in Wisconsin with High Life, MGD and Lite.
Although macros rule nationally, there are some exceptions, with Fat Tire tops in Colorado, and Sam Adams in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire (where it’s tied with Corona Light). Interestingly, Guinness is the most popular beer in Illinois and appears to be tied with Bud Light in Maryland.
The most popular beer nationwide is Corona, according to innerbody’s research. Dos Equis is tops in Texas and Modelo is big in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.
Innerbody describes its methodology: “We conducted a Google Trends data analysis using its geographic search tool to uncover beer consumption trends in the USA and compile our findings.”
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
