Veteran WTMJ-AM (620) personality Phil Cianciola confirms via Twitter this afternoon that he's been shown the door.
He tweets: "It's true. I was let go from my job today... Hope to talk to you on the radio again soon."
Cianciola is a long-time member of the afternoon "Green House" hosted by Jonathan Green. At the beginning of the year, WTMJ extended Green's contract, but didn't announce details.
There are no other details right now, and I'm trying to get a comment from 'TMJ management.
Cianciola, by the way, is a West Allis native and a graduate of UW-Milwaukee. After graduating in 1982, according to a biography pulled from WTMJ's Web site, he headed to Oklahoma City for a radio gig. Cianciola was back in town two years later where he's been working in radio here ever since.
He's the guy behind the annual "Green House Nuggets" CD of bits from the show, with proceeds going to charity.
Tim Cuprisin is the media columnist for OnMilwaukee.com. He's been a journalist for 30 years, starting in 1979 as a police reporter at the old City News Bureau of Chicago, a legendary wire service that's the reputed source of the journalistic maxim "if your mother says she loves you, check it out." In the fall of 1994, a lifetime of serious television viewing earned him a daily column in the Milwaukee Journal (and, later the Journal Sentinel) focusing on TV and radio. For 15 years, he has chronicled the changes rocking broadcasting, both nationally and in Milwaukee, an effort he continues at OnMilwaukee.com.
When he's not watching TV, Cuprisin enjoys tending to his vegetable garden in the backyard of his home in Whitefish Bay, cooking and traveling.
