From the Bucks to a plethora of big-name concerts and an entertainment block now filled with craft brew, a beer garden, a massive sports bar, fun games and a tasty tribute to all things Sconnie, Deer District has just about everything. And the powers that be are doing their best to eliminate the "just about" part of that last sentence with their latest announcement, adding yoga and fitness classes along with a lineup of film screenings in the arena's plaza beginning this month.

Starting May 6-7, Fiserv Forum will introduce weekly fitness and yoga classes courtesy of Boot Camp by Ambrose and YogaSix, respectively. The former will host 60-minute fitness classes in the plaza on Mondays from 7 to 8 a.m., while the latter will take the space for hour-long sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the same time slot. Both will be led by licensed fitness instructors, and both are free and open to the public, running through September.

Then, for something a little less strenuous, the plaza outside Fiserv Forum will host a series of movie screenings every other Tuesday night – save for a skipped date on July 23 – starting on May 14 and running through Sept. 17.

Each free "Movies Under the Moonlight" showing will begin at dusk – approximately 7:30 p.m. – with food and beverage available for purchase. (Outside snacks aren't allowed, like any proper movie theater, but lawn chairs and blankets for sitting are more than invited.)

Here's the lineup of classics old and new coming right outside the entertainment block:

  • May 14: "Ralph Breaks the Internet"
  • May 28: "The Secret Life of Pets"
  • June 11: "Grease"
  • June 25: "Field of Dreams"
  • July 9: "Top Gun"
  • Aug. 6: "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
  • Aug. 20: "Frozen"
  • Sept. 3: "Aquaman"
  • Sept. 17: "Dumbo"

More information on the screenings and classes, as well as waivers for the latter, are available at Deer District's website

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
