After weather caused a postponment last weekend, bridge closures in the Zoo Interchange will occur beginning tonight. The ramp from northbound I-894/U.S. 45 to westbound I-94 closes at 9 p.m. The ramp will reopen in time for the Monday morning commute.
During the weekend, nearly 40,000 pounds of fill material will be moved into place to be used to support approach ramps for a new bridge connecting the roadways.
All work and closures are weather-permitting.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured east on I-94 to S. 84th Street, where it will turn around and use westbound I-94 to rejoin northbound U.S. 45.
The bridge is being closed in order to bring in 30,000 pounds of fill which will be used to build approaches to temporary bridges in the interchange as part of a $15 million emergency repair project.
Major work is expected to be completed by Memorial Day weekend, with minor projects expected to last until June.
Updated traffic and closure information can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's traffic information Web site.
