In the early spring of 1993, the truth was becoming all too apparent: A pandemic was breaking out in Milwaukee, one that would infect approximately 403,000 citizens and lead to at least 69 related deaths within a few weeks. Eventually, the microscopic culprit's name was uncovered - cryptosporidium - and the lessons learned during those weeks in 1993 would be just as important for another potential outbreak more than 20 years later.
