Satchmo's will soon open at 182 E. Lincoln Ave., replacing longstanding neighborhood tavern, Baby Boomers.

According to a Facebook post, the bar and restaurant are "coming soon" and will feature a full bar focusing on local beers and seltzers and a food menu with lunch, dinner and brunch options. Live music and Trivia Nights are also in the plans.

Satchmo's owners Sam and Ting Burazin are Bay View residents who also own Yang's Egg Roll House in West Allis.

Baby Boomers was best known for its no-frills environment, Friday night fish fry and, above all else, quirky sign featuring a cigar-smoking baby wearing a diaper and a military hat.

OnMilwaukee's Matt Mueller took a deep dive into the history of Baby Boomers in 2018 and spoke with owner Wendell Bennett who owned the 1906-built tavern since 2001. Bennett gave credit to the former owner for the sign.

"He was patriotic; he liked to have Army stuff and flags, and he was the one who came out with that baby having a beer and a cigar, telling the world, ‘Hey, here I am, I’m an Army brat’," Bennett said.

Somebody needs to buy this sign and put it, at the very least, in their basement bar. Also: welcome, Satchmo's!
