MARYVALE, Ariz. -- GM Dean Taylor made a move Wednesday to bolster a Milwaukee Brewers' bullpen depleted by injuries when he traded for veteran reliever Jose Cabrera.

The Brewers sent catcher Henry Blanco to the Atlanta Braves for Cabrera and catcher Paul Bako.

Cabrera, 30, will bolster a bullpen that could lack lefthander Valerio De Los Santos and projected closer Chad Fox. De Los Santos has come back slowly from shoulder surgery.

Fox was scheduled for a magnetic resonance imaging test on his right elbow after X-rays detected floating chips near the joint. Fox has a history of elbow problems.

Cabrera was 7-4 with a 2.88 ERA and two saves for the Braves last season. He is 13-7 lifetime with a 3.81 ERA.

Bako hit .212 last season and is considered a solid backup catcher. He will likely back up Raul Casanova behind the plate.

Blanco was considered a topnotch defensive catcher, but had trouble hitting over .200. He will likely share the cathing duties with Javy Lopez in Atlanta.

"I'm shocked,'' said Casanova, whose hot hitting this spring might have been a factor in dealing Blanco. "This might mean that I'm going to play a little more, but I'm going to miss Henry. Everybody is going to miss him.''
