After having to press mute on live music for more than a year, Cactus Club is ready to hit play yet again.

The beloved Bay View bar and music hall will host its first live show: a hybrid concert/film screening featuring Johanna Rose performing with an ensemble of SistaStrings and Ruth B8r Ginsberg members followed by showings of "Loon Lake," a three-part miniseries starring Rose as a musician taking to an off-the-grid lakehouse in the midst of the pandemic.

The free, all-ages show and screening will take place on Friday, April 30 at Cactus Club's outdoor backyard space. Rose and the ensemble will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., with "Loon Lake" playing on a loop after the musical performance from 8:30 until 10 p.m.

For more information on the concert – and to stay up to date on any future shows – visit Cactus Club's website. And to continue supporting Cactus Club as its stage reemerges from the pandemic, consider becoming a Patreon member or buying something from the venue's online shop – or drop by to grab a drink on its outdoor picnic tables. The Bay View hotspot is open this spring on Thursdays from 4 until 8 p.m., Fridays from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

And stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more live music and summer event announcements.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
