The views of Deer District, crowded with joyful Milwaukeeans, inspired the city and the nation during the NBA playoffs. But just because the postseason came to a close doesn't mean the activity and community there will as well, as Deer District will bring a new night market series to the plaza this summer, beginning tonight.

Presented by the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network and produced by "Wisconsin Foodie" creator Arthur Ircink, the Deer District Market will take place in the plaza outside Fiserv Forum from 5-9 p.m. across seven Wednesdays and one Saturday during the rest of the summer, starting on July 28.

The night market will focus on supporting small local food businesses – particularly minority-owned ones – as well as bringing healthy and locally produced fresh food to the area.

Night one's list of vendors include:

  • A&M Organics
  • Alice's Garden Urban Farm
  • At Peace Design
  • Aunt Manda's Beverages
  • Delicious Bites
  • DragonFly Honey
  • Emmanuels Mix
  • Funky Fresh Spring Rolls

“I'm honored to bring my experience and connections to Deer District to create something new and exciting, building off of all the recent momentum in the district while supporting small business," Ircink said, in a release.

“We’re pleased to partner with Deer District and the Milwaukee Bucks to bring this fun, new event to Downtown in a way that promotes healthy eating and support for local food business,” said David Olson, Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer, in the release. "Deer District Market will bring healthy nutritious options within walking distance to more of our community and promote a healthier lifestyle by offering nutritious food choices and education."

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
