OnMilwaukee has partnered with MillerCoors to highlight some of Milwaukee's legendary watering holes. Don't you forget about them! Read all of them here. AND please celebrate this summer responsibly.

After shuttering for 13 months, Fuel Café 5th Streetreopened its doors and is now serving seven days a week. The re-entry process for the moto-themed hotspot in Walker's Point is happening with deliberation and care.

“We still have our training wheels on, but will be ramping up slowly over the summer with new menu items, events, business and private catering, and as always, hoping to see some bikes out," says Fuel's general manager, Matthew "Ace" Fisher.

Although the decor did not change – it was still freshly built when Fuel was forced to close due to COVID-19 in March of 2020 – the menu is brand new. Appetizers include popcorn chicken, bacon "crack," chips/dips/crisps, Milwaukee Pretzel Company pretzels and dips, and more. Fuel is now working with East Side Ovens for bakery items and features a larger selection of vegan and gluten-free bakery now.

According to Fuel co-owner, Kristyn Eitel, all of the sandwiches on the menu are new. (The former Fuel on 5th menu featured the iconic "cheesy tomato" sub that first appeared on a Fuel menu in 1993 when the cafe opened.)

“We have a new menu built on what we learned our 2019-20 guests wanted most. Our biggest successes have been serving great comfort snacks and sandwiches and we are opening with some new items that highlight that,” says Eitel.

The weekend brunch, however, will retain some of the classics like the hot chicken with French toast and chilaquiles. New items include a "brisket s*it on a shingle" and decadent "Croque M’s."

Brunch items are added to the daily menu every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bottomless mimosas are available for $15 with food purchase. Brunch reservations are available on the website.

The cafe completed its COVID plan with the city and was approved for capacity rules in accordance with the plan. They also installed plexiglass dividers at the bar to further ensure health and safety.

“We are excited to see 5th Street be a gathering place as it has been in the past, and believe that opening now with the large space we have indoors with our garage doors, large patio, and sidewalk seating, guests will feel comfortable coming back and we will have a great summer,” says co-owner, Leslie Montemurro.

Fuel Cafe 5th Street opens daily at 9 a.m. The café and bar/restaurant are open from 9 a.m. to 9 .m., Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Brunch is served from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
