The much-anticipated Nashville North officially opened today at 1216 E. Brady St. inside the former Up & Under Pub.
Nashville North is a live music venue with two stages as well as a large bar and restaurant with a full kitchen serving lunch, dinner, snacks and late-night (the kitchen is open seven days a week until close.)
“We wanted to bring the Nashville music vibe to Milwaukee, specifically to Brady Street,” says Marie Schneider, media manager for Nashville North.
Live bands will play three-to-six nights a week and will range from local to national acts. The bar will also host a karaoke and an open mic night.
“Although we are a honky-tonk corner tap, we are very committed to honoring Milwaukee’s vibrant music scene – and not just country music,” says Schneider.
The space is clean and sleek yet with a rustic feel. Much of the art and wall objects are locally sourced. Former Up & Under dwellers will particularly appreciate the stickered, graffitied, weather-beaten door hanging inside the refreshed space.
Jeff Marsh, the owner of the six Charcoal Grill restaurants in the state, is also the owner of Nashville North.
“It took a little longer for us to complete this project because Jeff is really big on doing everything right,” says Marie.
Nashville North focuses on “hand-held quick eats” like hotdogs ("The Uecker," "The Laverne & Shirley," "The Dick Bacon"), smashburgers and hot chicken, but will also have a few Charcoal Grill favorites like a half-rack baby back ribs and rotisserie chicken. And of course comfort food favorites like tots, mac and cheese, pulled-pork cheese fries and more. All of the food is sold a la carte.
The bar features a huge selection of canned beverages also with a cocktail menu (Peach Bourbon Smash, BBQ Mule, "Hippie Juice") along with boozy slushes and cold shots.
“We have some great cocktails and some different things, but sometimes there’s nothing like holding a can in a coozie while listening to live music,” says Schneider.
Nashville North will also host bachelorette parties, birthday parties and corporate outings.
“Our main message is that we’re a live music venue for everyone. We don’t want people to think you have to wear cowboy boots to come here. Whether you do or you don’t, you’re welcome here,” says Schneider.
