Musician Evan Christian reopened Gibraltar, a jazz/world music club that was originally in Walker's Point, in the Historic Third Ward, 131 N. Jackson St. It is on the ground floor of the Jackson Block Apartments.
Christian completely redesigned the 2,000-foot corner space, which was formerly a country bar, Saloon, into a chill, artistic lounge featuring walls adorned with portraits, guitars, records, Christian's awards and colorful flowers suspended from the ceiling.
Christian’s signature bowler hat is represented in the decor and serves as the sign on the facade of the building.
Gibraltar serves a wide array of cocktails, wine, beer and will eventually serve sharable food items.
The new Gibraltar focuses on eclectic live music performances and will host about 200 concerts per year. The space will also host karaoke nights, poetry readings, DJs, dance performances and more.
Christian opened the first Gibraltar in 2016 at 538 W. National Ave., but closed the business two years later. Christian is an award-winning guitarist with a focus on Latin, soul, Flamenco, jazz, R&B and more.
Christian has traveled the world through his music, but Milwaukee is forever his home.
"I don’t focus on what this city is not. I focus on what it is and what it can be," he says.
Gibraltar is open Wednesday through Saturday.
