Every March, Gilles' Frozen Custard – the longest-running frozen custard stand in the area, dating to 1938 – at 7515 W. Bluemound Rd. brings back its popular Jameson Irish Whiskey custard in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

This year is no exception and the custard is available in pints all month long and is also the Flavor of the Day on March 17-18.

Gilles devotees know that you can often get this creamy delight with just a hint of whiskey tang in early April, too, even though some folks stock up.

And it's not strictly an early spring treat, either, because it's also available at the height of summer, during Irish Fest, at the Jameson Cottage.

But who can wait until then?

Enjoy a taste of Dublin's Bow Street (though, really, Jameson is made at the New Midleton Distillery in County Cork these days, not on Bow Street anymore) on Tosa's Bluemound Road.

Slainte', Milwaukee.
