Milwaukee is known for many things: cream-colored bricks, beer, the Bucks and a ton of construction. Though that last point tends to be a sore topic for most, there is a bright side to one of the biggest construction projects you may have noticed on Kilbourn and 6th: The Wisconsin Center is expanding!

Budgeted at $456 million, the expansion will bring the exposition hall to 300,000 contiguous square feet, add 24 new meeting rooms, include indoor parking and feature a spectacular rooftop ballroom with sweeping city views from the outdoor terrace. All while on a mission for economic inclusion by committing to 25 percent minority-owned businesses, five percent women-owned businesses and one percent disabled veteran-owned businesses.

In the most recent GoGedders episode, host Richie Burke sits down with Marty Brooks, President and CEO of Wisconsin Center District (WCD), to discuss what’s in store for Milwaukee in the near future. Marty covers the ins and outs of the expansion, from the logistics of why they’re doing it and how they’re doing it to the impact it will have on the community and what residents and visitors have to look forward to.
