The summer music festival season may be coming to a close – but it's going out with a bang as the next seven days mark the second annual Hip-Hop Week MKE, an official City of Milwaukee event about hip-hop, its past and present, and its ability to transform communities – spanning financial literacy, health/wellness and civic engagement.
The city-wide week-long celebration features exhibits, film screenings, tutorials, conversations and, of course, plenty of hip-hop performances.
"Milwaukee has made history as the first city in America ever to create an official ‘Hip-Hop Week’ focusing on the power of hip-hop to help transform urban communities," Ald. Rainey said, in a release. "I invite the entire city to check out the many great events and performances next week that will touch on strengthening the community from a business and health standpoint, to a financial and political standpoint and beyond."
Among the Hip-Hop Week MKE performances and events spread across venues throughout the entire city are a screening of the Eddie Murphy comedy classic "Coming to America," a concert from Megan Thee Stallion, a seminar on financial literacy and real estate from DJ Envy, an airing of the final episode of 88Nine's local hip-hop history podcast "Backspin" and the Summer Jam Band Bazaar featuring Coo Coo Cal and many more.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
