Hop Harvest & Vine Public House, a restaurant and bar adjacent to the Good Harvest Market, 2205 Silvernail Rd., in Waukesha (though it has a Pewaukee mailing address), opened its improved beer garden last weekend overlooking a 17-acre nature conservation area.
In 2020 in the market’s former Harvest Café space was renovated and converted into Hop Harvest & Vine, where breakfast and lunch is available every day and there’s dinner service Wednesdays-Saturdays.
Last year, the owners created the outdoor beer garden space and it was so popular that they decided to add a roof to make it more versatile.
Construction was completed in late June, according to co-owner Joe Nolan.
“The beer garden space is lovely, but the fact that it’s south facing meant that on hot sunny days it wasn’t all that comfortable,” says Nolan.
“Now we can hold our outdoor events under cover, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful views as they listen to live music, play trivia or enjoy their food and beverages. Plus we have a playground for kids and we are dog-friendly.”
Nolan says that while the space currently has open sides, he plans to add garage doors and walls to make it an all-season space.
“Our goal of being everyone’s ‘third place,’ where people can enjoy good food and beverages, meet old friends or make new ones, is taken to the next level with our beer garden,” he says.
“The 1,500-square-foot room will be able to seat up to 125 people and will be available for weddings and other party rentals. Plus we hope to bring in some well-known local and national bands/performers and charge a small cover charge to pay for the talent.”
The pub and restaurant offers traditional breakfast and brunch menus, as well as a dinner menu with pizzas and pasta dishes, and a pub menu with burgers, bowls, a fish fry, apps and more.
The beer list includes brews from Raised Grain, Eagle Park, Brewfinity, Third Space and Capitol Brewing – among others – as well as cider, seltzer, mead, wine and kombucha.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
