I didn’t realize how many local people hung out at hotel bars until I was the Pfister Hotel Narrator/Writer-In-Residence from 2013-2014. My job was to spend time in the Pfister’s Lobby Lounge, Mason Street Grill and Blu and chat with guests over drinks about what brought them to the hotel and then write about it for the hotel’s blog.
I met people from all over the world: Tokyo, Stockholm, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco. But I also met a lot of people from Milwaukee, many of whom said they enjoyed going to hotel bars in their hometown because it added an element of adventure and romance. This resonated with me, and since then, I have made a point to visit more hotel bars over the past decade, and in doing so, discovered we have so many gems worth checking out, even if we aren't checking in.
