We received this plea from Hunger Task Force this morning and we urge everyone to get into the real holiday spirit by lending a hand:

"Facing shortfalls in emergency food supplies as well as increased demand at food pantries and soup kitchens, Hunger Task Force is asking Milwaukee donors to help its ability to feed the hungry this holiday season.

'Milwaukee’s poor are counting on us to help them at the holidays and through the winter, and we can’t let them down,' said Sherrie Tussler, Hunger Task Force executive director. 'We need Milwaukee’s help feeding the hungry—generous donors in this city have always come through for us when we’ve asked them, and this year is no exception.'

Hunger Task Force needs canned fruits and vegetables, breakfast cereal and infant formula. It also needs monetary donations to purchase and ship food. Hunger Task Force distributes all food to pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters 100 percent free of charge.

Donations of food and money can be made in person at Hunger Task Force’s warehouse -- located at 201 S. Hawley Ct., off the Hawley Road exit on I-94 near Miller Park -- from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations of money can be made through Hunger Task Force’s secure Web site, hungertaskforce.org, or by calling (414) 777-0483."
