In an effort to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in Wisconsin, Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones is teaming up with a variety of food banks to launch the second annual Defeat Hunger Bowl food drive beginning Jan. 8 and running through Feb. 9.

Jones will promote the food drive by making appearances at Walmart locations in Milwaukee and Green Bay on Tuesday.

Walmart and Sam’s Club are participating in the effort, along with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Feed My People, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, Channel One Regional Food Bank and Second Harvest Heartland.

"As a child, there were a lot of days when my family and I didn’t have any food to eat," Jones said. "So I know firsthand how important this campaign is and the difference even one item of food can make in someone’s life. I am honored to be a part of this campaign and hope all the Packers fans out there will join me to help out those in need."

Jones will appear at Walmart’s Greenfield Supercenter at 10600 W. Layton Ave. in Milwaukee at 10 a.m.

He'll appear later at the Walmart Supercenter on West Mason Street in Green Bay.

Beginning on Wednesday nonperishable food items will be accepted at 91 participating Walmart stores and 12 Sam’s Club locations throughout Wisconsin, with all donations benefiting local Feeding America food banks.

Food donation bags will be available for purchase for $5 at all participating locations.
