It's time for Dining Month, presented by Deer District and its spooky Halloween-themed alter ego, Fear District. Throughout the month of October, we'll be serving up fun and fascinating content about all things food. The signature dish, however, is our 2019 Best of Dining poll, who's winners we will dish out all month long. Get hungry, Milwaukee!

I’ve been dishing up all sorts of articles this month about can’t-miss restaurants (including my annual list of top spots for 2019). And I’m following all of it up with a PSA about a new food truck you’ll definitely want to put on your "to try" list.

Last March, I brought you the news about the forthcoming Milk Can Hamburgers & Frozen Custard concept. But, thanks to a new food truck, you can try their burgers (along with fries, onion rings and a small slew of other items) right now.

The new truck took to the streets in Downtown Milwaukee last week and is currently in residence at 644 N. Plankinton Ave.

Don't be dissuaded by the line. Good places have lines. Plus, Milk Can is making your food to order, so it will be worth it in the end.

The menu (see below) includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fried and grilled chicken sandwiches, ham sandwiches and sides like fried cheese curds, French fries, onion rings. There are also desserts from the accompanying Milk Bottle Bakery including brownies and cookies.

My quick take

I paid a visit to the truck on Friday and ordered a cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate brownie (not pictured). It was good enough that I’ve got my mind set on attempting to work my way through the entire menu.

The cheeseburger was exquisitely messy (you’ll need napkins) with a beautifully toasted bun, a tasty beef patty, plenty of condiments, great pickles, tasty onions and just the right amount of cheese. The fries are crisp and coated with a seasoning blend that makes them downright addictive.

If you've ever had tortilla chips seasoned with that citrusy-salty-and-slightly-sweet spice blend that you can't stop eating ... these are just like that.

As for that brownie, it was equally compelling; it possessed a rich fudgy texture and a deep chocolate flavor that pretty much hit my definition of "brownie" on the head.

Milk Can Hamburgers & Custard is currently serving Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. But, as usual, you should double check its whereabouts on Facebook or Instagram before paying a visit.

The truck will also be serving up delicious things at the Bittercube Bar & Bazaar Spooky Dance Party on Thursday, Oct. 31 beginning at 5 p.m. The first anniversary/Halloween party will come complete with beastly booty-shaking beats, a mysterious color-changing White Stout from Vennture Brew Co. and plenty of delicious Bittercube cocktails.
