Good news, Brew City soccer fans: The Milwaukee Wave is back, as the team announced that it will return to the MASL for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Last we saw the indoor soccer team, the Wave had won the MASL title in 2018-19 and was seeking to defend their championship. Unfortunately, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic cut the 2019-20 season short with no playoffs to decide a champion – and the following year, while most of the MASL returned, due to issues between the Wave and the Wisconsin Center District about contract terms with uncertain crowd capacity, the Wave had to cancel its 2020-21 season.
But now, with a new deal signed between the team and the UWM Panther Arena, the Milwaukee Wave is returning – and can properly defend its MASL title. (The San Diego Sockers, though, are "technically" the defending champions, winning the Wave-less 2020-21 MASL campaign. We are choosing to ignore that.)
“Thanks to a new one-year lease agreement with Panther Arena, we can get back on the turf,” noted Milwaukee Wave owner Mike Zimmerman, in a press release. "I think our entire organization looks at this season as a chance to defend our championship after an unforeseen interruption."
The Wave's home opener against the Baltimore Blast will take place on Saturday, Dec. 18 at the UWM Panther Arena. For more information – including the complete schedule and tickets – visit the Wave's website. And here's to taking the turf once again!
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
