OnMilwaukee, a digital media company and publisher of the daily online magazine of the same name, earned a nomination from the Milwaukee Press Club Friday.
The honor came in the Best Critical Review category, with OnMilwaukee pop culture editor Matt Mueller and his review of Paris Hilton's DJ gig at Summerfest earning a spot as a finalist.
"Witnessing the sensory experience that was DJ Paris Hilton was finally worth it," Mueller said. "All joking aside though, it's an honor to be nominated. Nobody writes for the awards, but to be recognized alongside such great local writers and terrific local writing – and that's not even including the tons of equally great pieces not nominated – is a real privilege."
Friday's preliminary results are for the 86th annual Milwaukee Press Club Awards for Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism competition. Finalists will not know whether they have won a gold, silver or bronze award until the final results are announced and the winners are honored at the Club's Gridiron Awards Dinner, hosted at the InterContinental Hotel on Friday, May 13.
Marty Baron – current executive editor at the Washington Post and former editor at the Boston Globe during the breaking of the Catholic church sex scandal story profiled in the Oscar-winning drama "Spotlight" – will also be recognized that evening as the MPC's 2016 Sacred Cat Award honoree.
