Summer is pretty much here, but a whole mess of movies won't be – at least on Netflix, that is.
The Big Red Streaming Monolith announced its monthly list of departures today, and it is not insignificant! Oscar favorites "Dances with Wolves," "The English Patient" and "Chocolat" are all out of luck in May, while critical darlings "Eternal Sunshine" and the wine doc "Somm" will get wiped off the service, as well.
Joining those films melting away like a Popsicle in the summer heat are the superhero adaptation "Watchmen," the Americanized monster movie "Godzilla" (the first one) and the iconic coming-of-age comedy "Sixteen Candles" will all get the axe as well.
Oh, and also "West Side Story," "Jaws," "The Dirty Dozen" and just about all of its Bond movies ("Dr. No," "From Russia with Love," "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") which I believe accounts for approximately 87 percent of Netflix's supply of movies made before 1980. But what good are old films for, anyways – other than to promote newer films actually available in one's increasingly limited catalogue via a Twitter thread.
Lastly, I just want to shout out this split diopter shot from Final Destination 3 because it looks like it came right out of a Hitchcock/De Palma film. pic.twitter.com/Knan0fxoNK — Netflix Film (@NetflixFilm) April 23, 2019
Worth noting: Netflix has a combined one film from those two directors! (It's Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train," and it's rather good; watch it while you can!)

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
