Welcome to spooky season ... well, just about everywhere but Netflix, at least judging by their lineup of new movies and TV shows coming in October.

Indeed, if you're looking for scares, beyond the re-arrival of "It Follows" (which is great!), the debut of a new Mike Flanagan mini-series and a few other small bumps in the night, the Big Red Streaming Monolith is looking more trick than treat. But that doesn't mean the upcoming month is lacking for quality movies.

For instance, on the topic of quality movies: Oscar winners! Indeed, famed gold-statue honorees "A Beautiful Mind," "American Beauty," "Gladiator" and "Silver Linings Playbook" will all head to Netflix starting this month. And you know who else knows a little something about quality motion pictures? Some guy named Steven Spielberg, who will have four of his late period hits – "Catch Me If You Can," "Saving Private Ryan," "The Adventures of Tintin" and "War of the World" – fly in a bicycle over to the streaming service.

All sorts of other cinematic classics from all sorts of genres will also join Netflix this month – ranging from epic blockbusters ("Dune," the first four "Mission Impossible" films) to the iconic "Scarface" to the silly skadooshery of "Kung Fu Panda" and laugh-out-loud legends like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "My Best Friend's Wedding." And if you're already in the holiday spirit – or the debating spirit – there's "Love Actually," which caused half of you readers to cheer and half of you to groan. (There's no in-between, apparently.)

That's not even including the Netflix Originals for October, including a new live-action comedy from funnyman Bill Burr, a steamy indie drama called "Fair Play" that played well on the festival circuit and a star-studded new Oscar play called "Pain Hustlers" featuring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans.

And that's just a handful of the sweet treats Netflix will hand out during October. So, with no further ado, here's the full lineup of movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this month:

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
