The reports of Netflix's demise have been great exaggerated ... at least according to the newly announced list of movies and TV shows coming to the streaming service to start 2020.
Indeed, while the Big Red Streaming Monolith is almost certainly doomed with multiple rivals joining Disney+ in the marketplace – all with larger libraries of content than Netflix – they at least will have a decent selection of new stuff to start off the new decade. So at least there's that.
Unlike most months, however, it's not the Originals that are the stars here. There's a new drama about the CIA investigating a man claiming to be Jesus called "Messiah," new seasons of "Grace and Frankie" and "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," and a new original Tyler Perry movie, but otherwise the Originals lack any of the big names you're used to.
Instead, January will be all about the classics – from Oscar favorites ("American Beauty," "Catch Me If You Can," "The Master") to blockbusters ("Lord of the Rings," "Inception") to timeless retro winners ("Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "Ferris Bueller") and some horror icons ("The Evil Dead," "The Ring").
So maybe the future doesn't look so bad for Netflix. OK, no, actually, it looks really bad still – but at least we'll have January 2020. Here's the full list of movies and TV shows coming to the streaming service to start the new year.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
