What could be a more appropriate site for a beer garden than the lovely home built by Capt. Frederick Pabst, especially considering the Pabst's family's penchant for hosting parties and entertaining?

Yes, The Pabst Mansion, 2000 W. Wisconsin Ave., is launching a beer garden on its grounds on July 1.

The beer garden will be open to the public, as well as to visitors to the mansion, which is open for tours.

Supported by, among others, the Pabst Brewing Company, the beer garden, will be open Thursdays-Mondays, noon-6 p.m.

It will serve landmark Milwaukee beers like Pabst, Blatz, Schlitz and Miller, alongside local craft beers and some locally made snacks.

All proceeds from the beer garden will help fund care and preservation of the mansion.

Hard as it may be to believe, the mansion almost didn't survive. Designed by Ferry & Clas, the house was built between 1890 and '92. It's been open to the public since 1978.

Since reopening to the public in April, the Pabst Mansion has begun offering new programs, along with its great tours and other events. One of them is this series of Pabst history bike rides in partnership with Milwaukee County Historical Society and Bublr Bikes.

Looking for a dose of Gemütlichkeit and a good beer in a historic atmosphere? The Pabst Mansion's got you covered! Prost!
