With another day until the Packers and Steelers meet in Super Bowl XLV, you could probably use a little break from Packermania to catch up on what else is happening in the local sports scene.

So, for one night only, "Scorecard" returns to fill you in on what you may have missed while watching the first 3,439 hours of pregame coverage.

He's all growns up: Blake Geoffrion skated his way through the first half of practice Friday morning and was a little confused by the snickers and smiles from his teammates.

Finally, he realized that his teammates had attached a temporary captain's "C" to his practice jersey.

The Admirals were having some good-natured fun at Geoffrion's expense. The rookie out Wisconsin – last year's Hobey Baker Award winner as the best college hockey player in the nation – was the feature of a bobblehead giveaway Friday night

In addition, the University of Wisconsin Band was scheduled to perform at the game, further putting the spotlight on the youngster, who turned 23 on Thursday.

So with his own bobblehead and his college band in the house Friday night – not to mention the fact that the Admirals were wearing special uniforms modeled after those worn by the Badgers -- the script dictates it was his night to shine.

Boy, did the kid come through.

Geoffrion scored a goal and assisted recorded three assists the Admirals defeated Rockford, 4-2. It was another strong performance for Geoffrion, the defending American Hockey League Player of the Week.

"I'll tell you what, I actually was kind of nervous," Geoffrion said. "In warm-ups, I felt like I was a freshman again, stepping on the ice and hearing the band play, putting those jerseys on. It was a great feeling to have a flashback almost."

His four-point effort capped off an impressive stretch, highlighted by a five-point performance last week against Peoria. In his last five games, Geoffrion has five goals and eight assists.

"It's fun to watch and it's got to be fun to be him right now," said Admirals head coach Lane Lambert "I wouldn't say everything he touches turns to gold, but certainly he's getting a lot of good breaks and he's working for those breaks. That's the key for me in his game, is that he's working and battling in all three zones and it's paying dividends down in the offensive zone. It's great to see."

Brewers add Kotsay: After making headlines with a pair of major trades over the winter, signing reserve outfielder/first baseman Mark Kotsay doesn't exactly give a person goosebumps.

Still, picking up a player like Kotsay (one year, $800,000) is an important move for the Brewers, who have their eyes set squarely on a championship-caliber season. Kotsay, 35, is a Craig Counsell-like player (in fact, the two were teammates together with the Marlins at one point); a savvy veteran, a good presence in the clubhouse and somebody who knows how to produce when called upon late in the game (.315 as a pinch-hitter in his career).

Bucks beat: The Bucks signed Garrett Temple to a second 10-day contract. The 24-year-old has played in six games since joining the team, averaging 2.5 points and one rebound in 11.7 minutes.

  •  The team will be without forward Drew Gooden for at least another month. Gooden, signed during the off-season to a five-year contract, has missed 22 games -- including the last seven -- while dealing with plantar fasciitias in his left foot. He'll undergo treatment from foot and ankle specialist Dr. Richard Ferkel in Los Angeles.
  • John Salmons returned Wednesday night from a hip injury which kept him out of eight games. He hit just one of seven shots in the Bucks' 92-77 loss at Phoenix and was 1-for-5 Thursday night in a 100-94 loss at Golden State.
  • Andrew Bogut was left off the Eastern Conference All-Star team despite leading the league in blocked shots (2.79/game) and being fifth-leading rebounder (11.7). Bogut has missed the last two games with a deep bone bruise.

Close but no cigar: UW head coach Bret Bielema was close to capping out his 2011 recruiting class with quarterback Jacoby Brissett, the nation's top uncommitted quarterback, but he opted to choose the University of Florida.

Overall, Bielema's 28-player recruiting class (thus far) is ranked 39th in the nation by Scout.com despite not having included a quarterback.

The Badgers lose Johnny Unitas Award winner Scott Tolzien. Junior Curt Phillips underwent surgery to repair his right ACL and won't be ready until the start of training camp.
