The first phase of construction officially begins today on an 85,000-square foot, two-level flagship Roundy's Metro Market in the Village of Shorewood.  Completion is estimated for January 2016.

The new facility will occupy two blocks between Kenmore and Olive Streets on the west side of Oakland Avenue, and will replace the current Pick 'N Save and empty former Schwartz and Walgreen's buildings.

The Pick 'N Save will close in May (or the end of April) and demolition will begin on that building.

Demolition of the abandoned Walgreen's and Schwartz building will begin at approximately 8 a.m. today (weather pending) and will continue throughout the week.

Traffic and pedestrian changes are also being made due to the closure of the western sidewalk along Oakland Avenue and the southern driveway into the Pick ‘N Save parking lot.  Due to increased use of the northern driveway and additional pedestrian traffic crossing Oakland to avoid the sidewalk closure, a four-way stop will be added at the Pick ‘N Save entrance located at Oakland Avenue and Wood Place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles.

The main concern, say Village officials, is that store customers and "all residents have the safest experience possible."  Traffic solutions will be monitored to ensure effectiveness.

The development team includes General Capital, Brookfield-based Briohn Builders, Robert Joseph, Brian Miller and the Hoff Group.
