Superheroes: They're almost everywhere these days – and that apparently includes ice rinks because your favorite caped and non-caped crusaders make a superhero landing at Red Arrow Park's Slice of Ice for the "Downtown Ice Cape-ade" on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Running from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the new free family-friendly event will feature several of your favorite superheroes and comic book icons taking a break from fighting crime to hit the ice with fans of all ages, with ice skate rentals provided for free. Yes, superhero costumes are encouraged, with attendees 10 and under even receiving a cape for showcasing their super-skating skills. (Don't tell Edna Mode.)
The special skate session will come soundtracked by DJ Shawna and include bonus features both hot and cool, with free s'mores for snacking and an Art Below Zero ice sculpture for superpowered photo ops. And speaking of powering up, several nearby Downtown businesses and restaurants will offer special deals on food and drink, including free hot cocoa from Fiddleheads in the BMO Tower, a complimentary dessert with a purchase from SafeHouse and 20 percent off pizza from Proof Pizza inside Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel.
“Downtown Ice CAPE-ade is a new event designed to beat the winter blues,” said Beth Weirick, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown BID #21, in a release. “We look forward to offering families an afternoon of cold-weather fun while celebrating the hero in all of us.”

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
