Update: The location of this event has changed. It will now take place at the Historic Third Ward EB streetcar stop (corner of St. Paul and Broadway outside of Café Benelux). The Hop, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 and the award-winning non-profit Art Start have joined forces to create a multi-city initiative to showcase youth-created art installations at public transit stops.

Art Start – based in New York and Milwaukee – recently announced the launch of their “See Me Because” public transit campaign, a multi-city initiative providing testimonies of historically marginalized youth from Milwaukee and New York City.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and representatives from Milwaukee Downtown and Art Start will unveil the project on Thursday, July 28 at the Hop’s Historic Third Ward WB Station. (Northeast corner of St. Paul Avenue and Water Street outside of the Milwaukee Public Market.)

The event begins at 11 a.m.

During the month of August, seven Hop stations will display a series of black and white photographs of local teens from both cities, accompanied by each individual’s personal story as told in their own words.

Art Start will also facilitate a public art project in which the entire community is invited to join by having their own portrait taken and crafting their own “See Me Because” statement.
