A new wedding and event venue called The Mitch, 1104 W. Historic Mitchell Street, is now booking weddings, parties, corporate and charitable events and more. Co-owners Marta Bianchini and Clai Green say their first event will take place in a few weeks.
"We named our business after the historic street that it's on," says Bianchini. "We wanted to give homage to both the street and the neighborhood."
The building formerly housed Scout Gallery. Green and Bianchini took over the space a few months ago and remodeled the main level into a high-ceiling, open concept with white walls and chandelier lighting.
"This way, everyone can make it their own. We provide the blank canvas for them to work with," says Bianchini.
People who rent The Mitch are able to pick their own caterer or make and bring in food themselves.
The lower level features bride and groom suites, a game room and a Selfie Lounge with six different backgrounds including a Milwaukee skyline, neon room and "banana wall with a swing" where guests can photograph themselves and post to social media.
"This may be Wisconsin's first selfie lounge," says Bianchini. "Our friend Ann Gilbertson came up with the idea, and we just love it."
The Selfie Lounge will be particularly ideal during weddings when the wedding party is out taking photos and guests need something to do before the reception.
Bianchini is also the owner of Cubanitas restaurants and Indulge Event Venue; Green is also the owner of Luci Boutique coming soon to Florida Street in Walker's Point.
Twenty years ago, Bianchini opened Cubanita's at 728 N. Milwaukee St. At the time, Milwaukee Street was desolate, but today it's bustling with commerce.
"We want to bring some of that same magic to Mitchell Street," says Bianchini. "This is an area that is really up and coming. It's also trendy and diverse, which attracts us to this neighborhood."
