Five years ago this weekend, Ricky Ramirez opened The Mothership, 2301 S. Logan Ave., in Bay View. Hence, he’s throwing a bash.

The festivities take place this Sunday, April 21 from 3 p.m. until close.

“A champagne power half hour” happens from 9 to 9:30 p.m.

Guest bartenders include reps from Leyenda in Brooklyn (3 to 6 p.m.), the James Beard Award-nominated Meteor in Minneapolis (6 to 9 p.m.) and Chicago’s Best Intentions (9:30 to close).

“Each bar will bring specialty cocktails and boilermakers that they’re known for and we will have three special menus for each bar during their respective time slot,” says Ramirez.

A temporary overflow bar and Maya Ophelia’s food truck will be on the patio.

For numerous reasons – most notably the pandemic – Milwaukee is a different place than it was on The Mothership’s maiden voyage in 2019.

“The bar definitely opened with a bang until the pandemic and we’ve slowly blossomed once again into a Milwaukee staple, a refuge for the service industry and respected regionally and beyond,” says Ramirez.

The party on Sunday is a thank you to the bar’s many loyal customers.

“We’re excited to host bartenders from very good cocktail bars and are just excited to celebrate with people who have come inside for a drink and hold so much love for us,” says Ramirez. “We hope they feel the love reciprocated all day Sunday.”
