According to a statement from owner Paul Jonas, Tonic Tavern, 2335 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., will shutter for good. Thursday, Feb. 29 will be the bar's last evening of service.

Tonic Tavern opened in 2009 and served not only as a neighborhood bar and live music venue, but also as a welcoming spot for community events. It will be missed.

Here is more of Jonas' statement:

"Thanks to current staff and former employees, all musicians and artists who participated and contributed over the years. The biggest of all thanks to patrons and Bay View neighborhood for being so supportive and receptive over the years. If you can, please come out and support the current staff through this very difficult transition by visiting for a 'final-final'. If you are so inclined visit our social media to share a favorite memory or two."
