Vier North opened in mid-January at 1832 E. North Ave. in the building that was home to iconic tavern Vitucci’s for 85 years. Vitucci’s closed in 2019.
Vier North is keeping the cocktail lounge tradition alive and also has a food menu, large patio, 10 screens for sports watching and a brand new look both inside and out.
Current owners Bryan O’Boyle, Adam Jansen, Gus Unholz and Faisal Ahmed-Yahia bought the building in 2022 and named it “Vier” as a nod to the “V” in Vitucci’s and also because the word means “four” in German. The four men have been friends for a long time and opening a bar together was a longtime dream.
The space underwent a complete renovation and now features an open concept with retractable garage doors leading to the patio on the east side of the building. New flooring, paint, bathrooms, kitchen, fireplace and possibly the longest bar in Milwaukee – it’s more then 80-feet long – create a modern vision barely recognizable from the former booths-and-dimly-lit lounge.
“We can accommoate just about anything. We have private areas for date night, tables for dinner and plenty of bar seating for drinking nights out,” says marketing director Andre Araujo.
The food menu is a work in progress, so far offering primarily pizzas and burgers with more to come in the near future.
“We refer to our menu as ‘glorified pub food.’ Our burger is poised to be one of the best in the city,” says Araujo.
The craft cocktail menu lists five martinis and five cocktails. There are 20 taps and coolers filled with bottles and cans of beer, hard seltzers and ciders. Vier North has an ever-growing wine list.
Vier North will also host live music.
So far, Araujo says the neighborhood has been extremely welcoming. “We are happy to be a part of the East Side revitalization and we want to bring character to the area like it's known for,” says Araujo.
Vier North has numerous nods to the former Vitucci’s, including a wall of vintage photos of the old fascade and members of the Vitucci family. The bar's exterior sign is a glowing letter “V,” which is also in homage to Vitucci’s, and the martini stained glass piece remains embedded in the front door.
“We want people to come in and make new memories,” says Araujo.
