Attention bar-hopping, patio-drinking, water-loving Milwaukeeans: You have a new favorite mode of transportation this summer.

Water Taxi MKE will debut this Saturday, operating up and down and all along Milwaukee’s rivers, providing rides by boat to bars, public docks, local landmarks and apartments on the water. Milwaukee’s Water Taxi will allow customers to see the city from a different perspective, enjoy the beautiful rivers and get to their next spot in a fun, safe and unique way. Not to mention, avoid the Downtown street construction.

Water Taxi MKE offers three ticket options – short trip, long trip and pub crawl – and ordering one is delightfully easy. You simply text (414) 563-7025 with your location and Water Taxi will respond with its availability; then, purchase your tickets online or onboard and the river cab will pick you up at your location for your water excursion.

On the boat, you can drink alcohol, play your own music, explore the city and go anywhere along the rivers. Just try to keep the "woo"-ing to when it's absolutely necessary.

So, which bars are on the water? Lakefront Brewery, The Harp, Ale Asylum, Rock Bottom Brewery, Milwaukee Ale House, Milwaukee Sail Loft, Barnacle Bud’s, Love Shack, Twisted Fisherman and more. Plus, when you're on the water with beers and friends, all the river's your bar (not literally).

Short Trips, which go to the next stop on the river and get you there fast, are $5 per person. Long Trips skip the scheduled stops and take you wherever you want to go on the water, costing $10. The Pub Crawl is $20 – call or email ahead to set it up – and Water Taxi MKE can create a schedule for you and your friends that includes access to all of the river bars, allowing you not to think about where to go and just enjoy the experience. Also, custom-built, 19-passenger water taxis are coming soon.

According to the company, Water Taxi MKE is currently limited to six passengers at a time, per Coast Guard regulations.

Born in Milwaukee but a product of Shorewood High School (go ‘Hounds!) and Northwestern University (go ‘Cats!), Jimmy never knew the schoolboy bliss of cheering for a winning football, basketball or baseball team. So he ditched being a fan in order to cover sports professionally - occasionally objectively, always passionately. He's lived in Chicago, New York and Dallas, but now resides again in his beloved Brew City and is an ardent attacker of the notorious Milwaukee Inferiority Complex.

After interning at print publications like Birds and Blooms (official motto: "America's #1 backyard birding and gardening magazine!"), Sports Illustrated (unofficial motto: "Subscribe and save up to 90% off the cover price!") and The Dallas Morning News (a newspaper!), Jimmy worked for web outlets like CBSSports.com, where he was a Packers beat reporter, and FOX Sports Wisconsin, where he managed digital content. He's a proponent and frequent user of em dashes, parenthetical asides, descriptive appositives and, really, anything that makes his sentences longer and more needlessly complex.

Jimmy appreciates references to late '90s Brewers and Bucks players and is the curator of the unofficial John Jaha Hall of Fame. He also enjoys running, biking and soccer, but isn't too annoying about them. He writes about sports - both mainstream and unconventional - and non-sports, including history, music, food, art and even golf (just kidding!), and welcomes reader suggestions for off-the-beaten-path story ideas.
