Remember the beloved Downtown dive bar, My Office? Well, it’s coming back – hopefully in August – as Your Office, 763 N. Milwaukee St. The new establishment is owned by local business professionals Lisa Proeber, Nick Starr and Michael Sorge.

“It was a historic bar and we want to recapture its charm with a fresh update,” says Starr.

Starr spent happy hours at My Office in the early years of his career, and after it closed in 2020, wanted to reopen it. He joined forces with Proeber and Starr and the three had a similar vision from the beginning. They all saw a need in the neighborhood for a casual bar near Cathedral Square as well as an easy breakfast spot.

The renovated – but not too renovated – Your Office will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails. Sorge, the owner of Black Sheep, will curate the food and bar menus.

“The food and drink menus are simple and classic,” says Proeber. “You’ll find the best sandwiches you’ve ever had and craft cocktails at dive bar prices.”

The straightforward drink menu will feature beer, wine, shots, mixed drinks and Wisconsin cocktails such as Old Fashioned, Brandy Manhattans and martinis.

Sandwiches will be at the heart of Your Office's food menu, including smashburgers, bologna sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches and more. The short-order breakfast menu will feature a soon-to-be-signature breakfast brat. Pickled eggs, bagged chips and other classic bar snacks will be available at the bar.

Guests can dine in the tavern or get orders to-go via the walk-up window while en route to their "actual" office.

“It’s a tiny kitchen that will pump out a lot of food,” says Sorge.

My Office closed in 2020 due to COVID-19 and a fire. The bar had been in operation for more than 50 years before it shuttered.

Preserving the “My Office” history was important to the new owners, and they worked diligently to maintain the atmosphere and traditions of the original space while introducing new and modern elements that appeal to a diverse audience.

Bar dice, pull tabs, slot machines and local sports and entertainment on the TV will add to the tavern vibe. The decor will include customers’ old trophies, employee recognition plaques and the like.

“We want everyone to feel like an employee of Your Office,” says Proeber. “The more hours you put in, the bigger your bonus is.”

(Wait, what?)

More than anything, the owners of Your Office want to provide a community spot that's comfortable to Milwaukeeans of all types.

“We want to attract all different characters and all walks of life like My Office,” says Starr. “But without the sticky floors.”
