When Third Coast Provisions opened in 2016, it made a name for itself with a focus on fresh, beautifully prepared seafood with locally sourced accompaniments.

And while seafood lovers can still enjoy some of the best fish dishes in the city at this opulent Downtown restaurant, the menu has evolved to include an equally compelling selection of dishes featuring land-based proteins and locally sourced vegetables, many enhanced by globally-inspired preparations. In fact, it's Third Coast's Midwest focus that keeps it a top pick on my list.

At a spot like this, where sourcing is impeccable, I’d still steer you towards items like halibut crudo with peach, mint, and crème fraîche; or PEI mussels in tom kha broth with Kalamansi lime. But I’d also encourage you to explore the rest of the menu, which currently features entrees like sweet corn ravioli with goat cheese; market price lobster rolls and filet mignon with sauce au poivre and house frites.

Thanks to its stellar bar program, Third Coast is also an excellent choice for happy hour (Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.) when they offer $6 bites and $9 drinks. Be sure to check out the Loon Room, their convivial Midwest-inspired speakeasy, open Thursday through Saturday at 5 p.m.

Recommended: House-baked bread; crudo; fish specials; house pasta
