You'll have to wait another year to get an eyeful of the Eiffel Tower as the East Town Association announced yesterday that Bastille Days is canceled for the upcoming summer due to uncertainty with the ongoing pandemic.
A virtual version of the Storm the Bastille run, however, will still take place this summer, with online registration expected to start in May.
The popular French festival joins Locust Street Festival, German Fest, Festa Italiana and PrideFest as major summer festivals avoiding the question marks of 2021 and choosing instead to return next summer. Summerfest, however, is still scheduled for three weekends in September while Irish Fest announced Wednesday that it will have a three-day in-person festival this summer.
Bastille Days isn't the only Cathedral Square Park tradition holding off for a while, as the East Town Association also announced that its annual Jazz in the Park live music series will be postponed, skipping its usual June through August months. All is not lost, however, for Jazz in the Park in 2021 as the organization is eyeing a potential late summer/early fall edition.
As far as events actually coming to the area this summer, the weekly Cathedral Square Market is expected to take place this year, running Saturdays beginning June 12 through Oct. 9 – complete with vendor protocols and customer precautions to help prevent COVID-19 spread.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
