In a quest to beef up their catching depth, the Brewers claimed J.D. Closser off waivers from Colorado today. Closser, a 26-year-old switch-hitter whose initials stand for Jeffrey Darin, has appeared in 160 games for the Rockies over the past three seasons. In that span, he hit .239 with 10 homers and 45 RBI.
In 70 games for Class AAA Colorado Springs this season, he hit .298 with eight homers and 30 RBI.
