The Cream Puff 5k, hosted this year on Wednesday, June 26, is probably the best 5k – because it's the only one that ends with a cream puff. And right now, you can get the best deal on the best 5k thanks to early bird registration pricing.
Running now through the end of the month, runners both hardcore and casual can sign up for the Cream Puff 5k run/walk – or its 1.5k walk – for $39, down from the usual $50 registration fee, at the event's website.
Signing up for the Cream Puff 5k doesn't just score you an opportunity to run, walk or – if you're me – wheeze around an early tour around the fairgrounds and Milwaukee Mile speedway. Registration for the in-person run/walk includes an admission ticket for the Wisconsin State Fair in August, a t-shirt, a commemorative ribbon, either a Michelob Ultra or Dasani water bottle to hydrate after the run and – most important – a cream puff to feast upon after the race. Plus, to help distract you from your aching legs and lungs, there will be a special Wednesday Night Live afterparty concert at the Bud Pavilion after the run/walk.
This summer's sprint will also bring back a way to win beyond being fast: a costume contest, encouraging competitors – whether as an individual or a group – to dress in their finest Wisconsin or State Fair-inspired costumes with a panel of judges picking the best of the bunch. For more information on the costume contest, click here.
Those who can't attend the in-person run can still participate in the Cream Puff 5k virtually. Registration for the virtual edition – which is also currently discounted at $45 through June 5 – comes with a 2024 State Fair ticket, ribbon, t-shirt and a voucher for a cream puff three-pack.
Again, the early bird discount registration for the Cream Puff 5k runs through midnight on Monday, April 1 – so don't end the first day of April feeling like a fool and catch the cheapest deal on this event while you still can. For more information, and to register, visit the 5k's website.
And we'll see you at the run/walk! I'll be the one crawling in pain at the quarter-mile mark.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
