Milwaukee PrideFest isn’t happening the way we’d like it to, but the organizers are determined to create a meaningful and helpful virtual experience for all.

The “Health & Wellness Area” is a free, online site that will be available during the festival weekend which takes place from Thursday, June 3 through Sunday, June 6. The mission is to connect LGBTQ and underserved communities with important resources.

Currently, the project is open for submissions from organizations and service providers who want to provide a free listing in the Health & Wellness Area.

“This is a huge opportunity to serve the community and in lieu of a physical space,” says Wes Shaver, President of Milwaukee Pride. “Many of the people in these communities lack the resources and/or accessibility to get the health, wellness and support they need to live a healthier, more successful, life.”

Because LGBTQ and underserved people face unjust and inequitable systems daily, Shaver hopes this digital platform will create a space of helpful information and, most importantly, equality.

“LGBTQ people are discriminated against, live in fear and often suppress seeking care due to lack of knowledge and awareness of who can help,” says Shaver. “We need to reduce those negative impacts and create clearer, wider and more accessible roadways for people to live a healthier and fulfilled life.”
