After ending a grueling trip with a deflating loss Thursday afternoon in Arizona, the Brewers return home for a 10-game homestand that will take them to the All-Star break.
The series begins with a July 4 matinee against Pittsburgh. The Brewers will wear special caps bearing the American flag as part of a "Welcome Home Veterans" initiative. The first 10,000 fans receive a coupon from Sports Authority.
ON Saturday, the Brewers will pay tribute to the Negro Leagues and wear replicas of the 1923 Milwaukee Bears uniforms from the Negro National League. The Pirates will wear the uniforms of the Pittsburgh Crawfords.
Former Negro League pitcher Eugene "Dick" Scruggs (Detroit Stars and Kansas City Monarchs, 1952-‘59) and first baseman James "Red" Moore (Atlanta Black Crackers, Newark Eagles and Baltimore Elite Giants, 1934-‘48) are the honorees who will be enshrined into the Yesterday's Negro League Hall of Fame, located at Milwaukee's Kathryn Daniels Conference Center.
In the series finale Sunday, all fans will receive a Brewers "Barrel Man" bobblehead. The Barrel Man was the team's logo from 1970-'77.
Sunday also marks the day that the Brewers (and other clubs) will discover which players have been named to the National League all-star team. Right-hander Ben Sheets is considered a strong bet to earn a spot and the Brewers have been pushing for leftfielder Ryan Braun to win a starting spot as well.
After the Pirates leave town, the Brewers will face Colorado and Cincinnati.
