Between an Opening Day loss to the Chicago Cubs and now a rain postponement, the 2022 Milwaukee Brewers season has gotten off to a ... inauspicious start. But things are already looking up, with the Brewers coming back to Milwaukee for their home opener on Thursday – and the team celebrating the unofficial holday in style with a pre-opener party.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 – 24 hours before the home opener at American Family Field – the Brewers will host their first-ever "Brewers Eve Bash" at Leff's Lucky Town, 7208 W. State St. The rally will feature giveaways, appearances from Bernie Brewer and the Racing Sausages, and of course the Brewers game out in Baltimore on TV throughout the bar. 620 WTMJ and Bally Sports Wisconsin are both expected to broadcast pregame coverage for the night's game from the Tosa hot spot as well.
The spirit of Brewers Eve won't just be limited to Leff's, though. Much like for the start of last year's postseason, multiple Milwaukee landmarks will light up blue and yellow to commemorate the team's return to the home diamond the next day.
As for fandom happening on next day – besides the home opener – the team is promoting fans around the city and state to wear Brewers blue and yellow for the home squad. And in case you needed some extra encouragement, fans wearing any Brewers gear to a participating Chick-fil-A location between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday will receive a free chicken sandwich. The participating locations include: 124th and Capitol, Brookfield Square, Delafield, Drexel Town Square, Greendale, Menomonee Falls, Pewaukee, Pleasant Prairie, Racine and West Allis.
UScellular will also reward Brew Crew fans, with four SE Wisconsin locations – 2145 Miller Park Way in West Milwaukee; 7836 S. Howell Avenue in Oak Creek; 5670 N. Port Washington Road in Glendale; and 5275 S. 76th Street in Greendale – each handing out 414 tickets to future home games to those wearing Brewers apparel on Thursday.
So with those two deals, hopefully there'll be a lot of winning next week Thursday – both on the field and off.
As for the actual home opener, the Brewers will take on the St. Louis Cardinals beginning at 4:14 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 – aka Milwaukee Day. As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
