The Brewers have an ability to reach Milwaukee beyond baseball, and they're stepping up to do so this weekend.
Friday and Saturday mark the annual Kindness In MKE initiative from the team, where players, coaches and front office staff will surprise individuals and nonprofits across southeast Wisconsin with acts of kindness.
The Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation plan to donate more than $50,000 to organizations and community members this year. The yearly effort focuses on giving back to Milwaukee in personal and impactful ways. You can find out more about the Brewers Community Foundation here.
On Friday, Ryan Braun joined the Famous Racing Sausages at Wilson Park Senior Center. The group surprised seniors during their weekly aerobics class with giveaways, treats and photo ops, and Braun and the sausages even joined in for the remaineder of the aerobics class. Participants received a swag bag with a Robin Yount bobblehead and t-shirt, as well as other Brewers memorabilia.
More surprises are lined up for the weekend, with players and staff ready to visit various locations and reach local organizations. The full Brewers roster will also contribute funds to nonprofits and individuals in need as part of the initiative. They of course will also do all of this while playing a series with the Minnesota Twins all weekend, as well.
While there's plenty of reasons to cheer for the Brewers on the field, initiatives like this make you want to root for the team outside of the ballpark, too. Keep the kindness going, and pay it forward this weekend, Milwaukee.
