The lead story Thursday was Ryan Braun's five-year contract extension but the Brewers did make a few other moves during their scheduled off-day.

Morgan bound for the DL: The deep thigh bruise that has limited Nyjer Morgan's availability the last week will land him on the disabled list. The move hasn't been made yet, but it will likely come tonight after Class AAA Nashville finishes its game tonight at New Orleans.

Outfielder Corey Hart isn't ready to come off the disabled list so the likely suspect is Brandon Boggs, who is hitting .308 with two home runs and 10 RBI.

Mat Gamel will most likely not get called up, despite his .353 average, .901 OPS and .450 on-base percentage.

"There's no place for him to play," general manager Doug Melvin said.

Gamel is making the switch to first base this season.

Kottaras clears waivers, heads to Nashville: Catcher George Kottaras cleared waivers and was outrighted to Nashville Thursday, clearing the way for Shaun Marcum to return from the bereavement list later this week.

The move was a calculated risk for the Brewers, who were carrying three catches on the roster. Neither Kottaras or Wil Nieves had any options remaining, meaning they both had to be exposed to waivers, but unlike Kottaras, Nieves would have had the right to refuse an outright assignment.

"This allows us to keep both of them in the organization," Melvin said.

Hawkins up, McClendon down: Reliever LaTroy Hawkins will be back with the team Friday when the Astros come to town for a weekend series at Miller Park. To make room for Hawkins on the roster, the team optioned reliever Mike McClendon to the Sounds.

Attanasio staying put: I'll have more on this in the next few days, but Mark Attanasio shot down a rumor posted by the Los Angeles Times linking the Brewers' owner to a possible purchase of the Dodgers, whose day-to-day operations were taken over this week by Major League Baseball. A team spokesman said earlier in the day that Attanasio was "thrilled" to be the Brewers' owner and speaking with the media after Braun's press conference, Attanasio reiterated that stance.

Again, I'll have more on the situation and Attanasio's comments later this weekend.
